| So that Pellmans everywhere can compare notes and assist one another in tracing their ancestry and family heritage, we have developed this Genealogy section to the Pellman World website. Based on the information that we have exchanged in e-mails and message boards with other Pellmans it seems evident that several Pellman family groups immigrated to the United States, and each tended -- at least initially -- to cluster around a particular region. Now, with much greater mobility, each of these groups has become more widespread. Hopefully, this genealogy section will help them stay in touch even though miles now separate them. We have begun assembling information on one branch of the Pellmans in the USA -- the lineage of William Henry (Wilhelm Heinrich) Pellman, who immigrated to the United States from Prussia in 1852 and was a civil war veteran. After hitting dead ends attempting to trace the Schimmels, Meiers, and other marriages of this branch of the Pellman family, we began tracing the lineage of Jack and Robert Pellman's mother, Grace (Jenner) Pellman. This side of the family proved to be much easier to research and produced a wealth of information. The history of the Jenner lineage in America is practically a summary of the birth and development of our nation, replete with pilgrims, Puritans, English colonists, frontierspeople, and veterans of the French & Indian War, the Pequot War, King Phillip's War, the American Revolution, the War of 1812, the Civil War, and World Wars I and II! It is a story of struggle, survival, and triumph over the odds. And it links our family to some of the most prominent names in American history. It is the story of the descendents of Richard Jenner, John Coe, Sgt. Edward Hinman, Nathaniel Baldwin, Stephen Parmelee, Nathaniel Hurlbut, and many more who shaped the New World. And there are countless more stories to add as we continue to explore the history of our family and our nation. |
